Are the workshops suitable for me?
The majority of people with musculoskeletal conditions are managed in primary and community based care.
We are building a coherent and integrated programme of activity that drives improvement in the delivery of care, by investing in the development and spread of new training and education resources for healthcare professionals.
Our educational package Core Skills in Musculoskeletal Care will give you the knowledge and skills to help treat your patients.
The package consists of the e-learning programme and the face to face workshops. These workshops focus on the practical skills required in a typical 10-minute GP consultation.
Our research shows that 1 in 5 people consult their GP about a musculoskeletal condition every year which is why for the first year of these workshops we are focussing on GPs or frontline professionals who see people with musculoskeletal conditions (e.g. if you are a physiotherapist working in an MSK service).
We recognise that there will be other professions who require education and training and we are looking into what we could provide for these people in future years. Please get in touch with us if you would like to discuss this with one of the team.
What does the course entail and what do I receive?
Core Skills in musculoskeletal care workshops will allow you to improve your skills and increase your confidence in treating your patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
The e-learning acts as a foundation level learning to the workshop and therefore delegates are strongly encouraged to complete the e-learning programme prior to attending the workshops. Certificates of completion will be checked by the trainers at the start of the day.
The workshops are largely split into three sections: Spine, lower limb (knee) and upper limb (shoulder). The trainer will go through an example examination demonstration and explanation including a management plan and the small (10-15 delegates) groups will be encouraged to practice this with the aim of increasing confidence in helping patients manage the most common musculoskeletal conditions.
Upon completion of the course and a post workshop survey you will receive 7 CPD points which will go towards your appraisal.
