The patient lies prone with the knee in neutral position. The transducer is placed transversely over the medial femoral condyle. Skin, subcutaneous fat, musculature, femoral artery and vein, and medial femoral condyle are identified.

The transducer is moved laterally towards the lateral femoral condyle. Skin and subcutaneous fat, popliteal musculature and lateral femoral condyle are identified.
