About the role
Versus Arthritis will operate a Research Expert Committee (REC) to assist the charity in planning, developing and undertaking activities to support research activities. The role of Research Expert Committee is to input expertise and insight and provide strategic advice to help the charity plan and prioritise new research activities, including our financial investments and influencing activities.
We are seeking professionals with scientific, clinical, health and research expertise as well as people affected by MSK conditions and other non-research specialisations including health and social care professionals, policy, public-sector and industry as appropriate to join our newly established Research Expert Committee. Members of the committee will contribute actively in the role, giving clear advice and challenge to the organisation, contributing to strategic and policy discussions, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against the agreed targets. Members of the committee will input expertise and insight for their respective areas and provide strategic advice to help the charity plan and prioritise new research activities, including our financial investments and influencing activities. Members will also have opportunity to take the role of Chair or Vice Chair of Versus Arthritis Funding Review Panels to help the charity in making decisions for research funding activities.
Please note that to ensure independent insight, Research Advisory Group (RAG) members cannot also be a member of the Research Expert Committee. Successful RAG applicants to the Research Expert Committee would therefore need to step down from their RAG membership.

There are 20.3 million people living with arthritis and MSK conditions in the UK. That’s one in three people, many who live in pain every single day. The impact is huge as the condition intrudes on everyday life – affecting the ability to work, care for a family, to move free from pain and to live independently. Yet arthritis is often dismissed as an inevitable part of aging or shrugged off as ‘just a bit of arthritis’. We don’t think that this is ok. Versus Arthritis is here to change that.
Join us and use your skills, knowledge, passion and energy to help us defy arthritis.
