Katrina's story

Katrina has had facet joint arthritis since she was 28.

In September 2017, she pledged to walk 10,000 steps every day for the whole month as part of the Versus Arthritis Miles Together challenge.

'For so long, I let the chronic pain that I was experiencing control me, but last year I wanted to take back some of that control and take on the biggest challenge I’ve set myself to date.

Every day I face the challenge of just putting one foot in front of the other; three years ago, I could barely walk.

Why did you want to take part?

I wanted to take part to raise money for Versus Arthritis to help those who are suffering with the pain and fatigue of arthritis every day, just like me.

It was very daunting at the start of the month when I realised just how many steps I was going to have to do every day, I struggled to actually believe that I would get anywhere near my goal. But something in me kept me going.

Perhaps it was determination, maybe even a pinch of stubbornness, but I had to prove to myself I could do it. My friends, family and the team at Versus Arthritis were amazing, supporting me all the way!

As I walked my last step on the last day of the challenge, I cried!

I couldn’t believe I had done it! I'm incredibly proud of myself for completing my Miles Together challenge and would recommend it to anyone who wants to take on a personal challenge in support of this vital charity.’

Your Miles Together challenge could be anything from walking to the local shop once a week, to completing 10,000 steps a day or cycling 50 miles - anything you pledge will make a real difference.

To date, Katrina has raised over £500 for Versus Arthritis, so we can continue funding world class research into finding a cure for all different types of arthritis and provide support to the 10 million people in the UK living with the pain, isolation and fatigue that arthritis causes.
