Plantar longitudinal scan

The patient lies prone, foot overhanging the end of the examination couch. The probe is placed longitudinally on the plantar surface over the medial aspect of calcaneus.
Skin, subcutaneous fat, plantar fascia and inferior aspect of calcaneus are observed. By moving the transducer inferiorly the plantar fascia may be followed to its insertion on the inferior aspect of the metatarsal heads.
