The patient sits, hand supinated, arm supported. The transducer is placed transversely over the base of the thenar eminence at 90o to the long axis of the first metacarpal bone. Skin, subcutaneous fat, flexor pollicis brevis muscle, flexor pollicis longus tendon and adductor pollicis are clearly visualised.
