The patient sits and the shoulder is internally rotated placing the hand over the lumbar spine. The ultrasound probe is placed longitudinally with the superior pole of the probe just below the lateral tip of the acromion. Skin, subcutaneous fat, deltoid muscle, subdeltoid bursa, supraspinatus tendon and humerus are visualised.
