Infrapatellar longitudinal scan

Watch the video

The patient lies supine, knee flexed at 15°. The trandsucer is placed longitudinally in the midline with the proximal end of the probe on the inferior pole of the patella. Skin, subcutaneous fat, patellar ligament, patella, infrapatellar fat pads, and femur with overlying cartilage are visualised. By moving the probe inferiorly, the patellar ligament is followed to its insertion on the tibial tuberosity.
