Giving through your pay
Giving through your payroll is a really easy and incredibly cost-efficient way to support Versus Arthritis' research. You decide what to give and your employer deducts that amount from your pay each week or month.
There's also a tax advantage to payroll giving because your donation comes out of your salary before it's taxed. This means that if you're a standard-rate taxpayer, for every £1 you donate, the actual cost to you will be 78p.
|Your pledge to us (gross)||Cost to you at 22% tax (net)||Cost to you at 40% tax (net)|
The Income Tax applicable to the donation is paid to Versus Arthritis instead of the Inland Revenue.
How do I set up payroll giving?
To help us through payroll giving, complete and sign our payroll giving form (PDF, 653 KB) and return it to:
St Marys Court
St Marys Gate
Chesterfield S41 7TD
You can alter or cancel your donation at any time – just tell your payroll office.
If your employer doesn't currently operate payroll giving, please ask your payroll office to contact Give As You Earn for advice on how to set this up.
Gift Aid is a UK tax incentive which allows charities to increase the value of your donation by 25%, at no extra cost to you.
If you’re a UK taxpayer and you sign up to Gift Aid, we can claim back an extra 25p for every £1 you donate. This makes a huge difference to us, and doesn’t cost you a thing.
Am I eligible to sign up for Gift Aid?
If you’re a UK taxpayer, yes. For a donation to qualify for Gift Aid, you must have paid enough UK income tax plus capital gains tax to cover all Gift Aid claimed on your donations in that tax year (6 April to the following 5 April). You must donate your own money.
Donations can be made by cash, cheque, postal order, direct debit, standing order, credit or debit card.
Even if you’re not employed, you’re still eligible if you’re paying tax on:
- personal pension
- occupational pension
- stocks and shares
- bank and building society savings accounts
- rental income.
If you’re unsure whether your donations qualify for Gift Aid tax relief please contact us via email email@example.com or 0300 790 0444 and we’ll be happy to help.
Can you claim Gift Aid on sponsorship money?
Yes, we can also claim Gift Aid on sponsorship money from events, such as walks, runs and cycles. However, each individual donor’s Gift Aid declaration needs to be captured separately on our sponsorship forms. The event participant cannot Gift Aid this donation on their behalf.

Versus Arthritis is working with Giveacar, which will take away your unwanted vehicles and donate the profits to Versus Arthritis.
How Giveacar works
- Contact Giveacar to register your car for donation. Make sure you select Versus Arthritis to complete your transaction.
- A tow truck will then arrive within 1-3 days (although on some occasions can take up to 10 days) to pick up your vehicle.
- Giveacar will either send your car to scrap or auction it off, then they will donate the proceeds (after administrative costs) to Versus Arthritis.
Every car is different, but they all will create a valuable donation. Every vehicle is worth something, and not just cars, you can donate vans, motorbikes and lorries. It is an easy way to get rid of a vehicle and raise money for a good cause, at no cost to yourself.
For more information call Giveacar direct on 0207 736 4242.
