Gift Aid

Gift Aid is a UK tax incentive which allows charities to increase the value of your donation by 25%, at no extra cost to you.

If you’re a UK taxpayer and you sign up to Gift Aid, we can claim back an extra 25p for every £1 you donate. This makes a huge difference to us, and doesn’t cost you a thing.

Am I eligible to sign up for Gift Aid?

If you’re a UK taxpayer, yes. For a donation to qualify for Gift Aid, you must have paid enough UK income tax plus capital gains tax to cover all Gift Aid claimed on your donations in that tax year (6 April to the following 5 April). You must donate your own money.

Donations can be made by cash, cheque, postal order, direct debit, standing order, credit or debit card.

Even if you’re not employed, you’re still eligible if you’re paying tax on:

  • personal pension
  • occupational pension
  • stocks and shares
  • bank and building society savings accounts
  • rental income.

Can you claim Gift Aid on sponsorship money?

Yes, we can also claim Gift Aid on sponsorship money from events, such as walks, runs and cycles. However, each individual donor’s Gift Aid declaration needs to be captured separately on our sponsorship forms. The event participant cannot Gift Aid this donation on their behalf.

I would like to claim Gift Aid

I want Versus Arthritis to claim Gift Aid on my donation made today, and any donations I make in the future or have made in the past 4 years. I am a UK taxpayer and I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference. Gift Aid is reclaimed by the charity from tax you pay in the tax year the donation was made in.

Giveacar

Versus Arthritis is working with Giveacar, which will take away your unwanted vehicles and donate the profits to Versus Arthritis.

How Giveacar works

  1. Contact Giveacar to register your car for donation. Make sure you select Versus Arthritis to complete your transaction.
  2. A tow truck will then arrive within 1-3 days (although on some occasions can take up to 10 days) to pick up your vehicle.
  3. Giveacar will either send your car to scrap or auction it off, then they will donate the proceeds (after administrative costs) to Versus Arthritis.

Every car is different, but they all will create a valuable donation. Every vehicle is worth something, and not just cars, you can donate vans, motorbikes and lorries. It is an easy way to get rid of a vehicle and raise money for a good cause, at no cost to yourself.
