Meet one of our supporters and hear their fundraising story
26 June 2025
Our supporters are an essential part of Versus Arthritis and help us to deliver on our mission to make sure that everyone with arthritis has access to the treatments and support they need to live the life they choose, and work towards a future free from arthritis.
Whether they are fundraising, running local support groups or volunteering their time to help at events, we couldn’t carry out our work without them.
We asked one of our amazing supporters, Meeta Mistry, what motivates them to give their time and energy to help our cause.
Why are you fundraising for Versus Arthritis?
"It's truly heartbreaking to experience the pervasive pain and life-altering effects of arthritis, especially when you're under 50 and feel like your life is consumed by it. I understand completely how challenging that must be.
"That's why my husband and I have chosen to support Versus Arthritis. We reached out to them for help, and they've been incredibly supportive, offering valuable information and even online Chi-me classes that have made a real difference for people like me. We're committed to helping them continue their vital work."
What are you doing to raise money?
"It's incredibly challenging to face the physical limitations imposed by severe arthritis, especially when it prevents engagement in activities like walking, running, or other forms of physical exercise. However, my passion for gardening remains strong.
"My husband and I find immense joy in cultivating both flowers and vegetables. To channel this passion into a meaningful contribution, we've decided to sell plants at a reasonable cost. All proceeds from these sales went directly to Versus Arthritis, by using their QR code, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals living with this condition like me."
How does fundraising for Versus Arthritis make you feel?
"It's so incredibly touching to see the dedication Snow and Hitesh poured into making the plant sale such a wonderful success. They truly went above and beyond, not only with all the potting and careful setup, but also by generating continuous sales through their efforts on Facebook and by spreading the word. Their hard work genuinely brought me so much joy and made me feel deeply supported."
Do you have any tips for anyone else wanting to organise a similar event in the future?
"You absolutely don't have to feel hopeless. Even when facing significant challenges, your hobbies and passions can be incredible tools to help others. If an idea sparks within you, no matter how small it seems, share it with your friends. Together, you can brainstorm, make a plan, and turn that inspiration into something truly impactful. You have more power than you think to make a difference, and often, the most meaningful contributions come from pursuing what you love alongside those who support you."
